Human Rights In Islam

These are vital signs of the rejuvenated moral and spiritual strength of Islam. But as we prepare to make the fifteenth century a glorious chapter of Islamic history, we have to be watchful of certain factors and forces which can slow the tempo of regenerated Islam if not completely retard it. Internal sectarian disunity, animosities and antipathies among the Muslim states have been the bane of Islamic civilization. In view of the common ideological, economic and political threats, the lingering tensions of the past need to be tranquilized and Muslim nations must evolve common actions and policies on the stage of world politics. Even more ominous than the internal disunity of the Muslim world, is the recent bitterness against Islam which has been generated among the masses in the western nations by the ill-informed and prejudiced mass media in the wake of the unfortunate seizure of the Holy Mosque in Mecca and the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Built-in hostility against Islam has been a general trait of the Christian West. In the past, however, misunderstanding about Islam and its mission was limited only to a small circle of Orientalists.
